Karl-Anthony Towns’ Performance On Sunday Had Fans Talking

With a chance to help solidify a chance to make the NBA playoffs, the Minnesota Timberwolves took on the Portland Trail Blazers, a team that has been eliminated from play-in tournament contention, on Sunday.

The Blazers sat a number of their best players against Minnesota, including Damian Lillard, Jerami Grant and Anfernee Simons.

Yet Minnesota lost, 107-105, and Karl-Anthony Towns was a big culprit, as he took just three shots in 25 minutes and scored eight points.

Fans were pretty disgusted at his anemic performance.

Towns came into this contest averaging 20.8 points per game this season, but his numbers are down from previous seasons.

Last year, he put up 24.6 points a game while shooting 52.9 percent from the field and 41.0 percent from 3-point range, but this season his accuracy is down to 49.2 percent overall and 34.9 percent from downtown.

Even worse, Towns’ rebounding has been on the decline.

As recently as the 2020-21 campaign, he grabbed 10.6 rebounds a game, but this year that mark is down to 7.9 per contest.

After a strong 2021-22 season in which they won 46 games and put up a fight against the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the playoffs, the Timberwolves have been a disappointment this year.

Many blame the trade for center Rudy Gobert, which resulted in the team shipping out five future first-round draft picks and five viable role players.

Gobert and Towns haven’t really meshed well this season, especially on the offensive end, where Minnesota ranks just 24th in offensive rating.

Unless the team starts to figure out that pairing, it will be stuck with Gobert, who is under contract for three more seasons at over $40 million a year.
