NFL Insider Says He Is ‘Fascinated’ By 1 Team’s Looming QB Decision

It’s a brave new world for the Green Bay Packers, who traded future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets after he had been their starter for the last 15 years.

They will now hand the ball to QB Jordan Love, who has been patiently waiting on the sideline for the last three years after he was taken with the No. 26 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Packers will have until Tuesday to decide whether to pick up his fifth-year option, and NFL insider Ian Rapoport says he is “fascinated” by the decision they will have to make on Love.

According to Rapoport, picking up Love’s fifth-year option would mean paying him about $20 million in fully guaranteed money for the 2024 season.

The other option is to decline the option and allow Love to head into next offseason as a free agent and possibly use the franchise tag to keep him around.

However, that would cost the Packers a lot more money.

Love has appeared in 10 games so far in the pros, and he has attempted just 83 passes.

At this point, it is nearly impossible to predict how good he will be as a starting signal-caller, as 10 games and 83 attempted passes are a small sample size.

Ironically, Rodgers sat for his first three seasons in the NFL before incumbent starter Brett Favre was traded to the Jets in 2008, just as Rodgers was last week.
