It’s been a while since the Indianapolis Colts last had a starting-caliber quarterback.
They tried to replace Andrew Luck with some proven veterans, but they were either unimpressive or past their prime.
So, it was kind of shocking to see them swing for the fences and take the ultimate high-risk/high-reward prospect in this class: Anthony Richardson.
Thought this was interesting from Chris Ballard, who has played it fairly safe at QB since Luck’s retirement. Sounds like someone who’s realized that safe won’t win in the AFC.

When asked about it, Colts GM Chris Ballard claimed that the team saw flaws in every QB, so it only made the most sense to go with the one with the higher ceiling.
Richardson was one of the most polarizing prospects in this class.
However, so was Will Levis, the guy most people thought the Colts would try and get.
Richardson is by far the most impressive athlete in this class.
His performances at the NFL Scouting Combine and Pro Day were breathtaking, showcasing unmatched arm strength, mobility, and athleticism.
Of course, there will always be concerns about his poor accuracy and lack of production at the collegiate level, but it’s not like he had the best supporting cast by his side.
Richardson has drawn comparisons to Cam Newton, and having a Cam 2.0 is most definitely better than what the Colts have had throughout the years.
The Colts have been on the verge of contention for years, but poor QB play has held them back every season.
Hopefully, that’ll no longer be the case, and Richardson will prove why he was worthy of such a high pick, even in a QB-studded class like this one.
