With Saquon Barkley deciding to skip New York Giants activities and a lack of updates regarding his contract situation, some fans have expressed their concerns about getting a deal done.
Nonetheless, there has been no rush from the organization to settle this situation, mostly because the team was focused on free agency and the NFL Draft.
But now that the festivities have passed, GM Joe Schoen believes it’s time to resume talks with Barkley and his camp, hoping to get a deal done sooner rather than later.
“We talked to his representatives last week,” Schoen said on Good Morning Football. “We had initial talks in terms of where we might be in terms of numbers.”

He did hurt his market by publicly talking about his injuries at the end of the season, but the Giants are still confident in their ability to reach an agreement and keep their star running back in the Big Apple for years to come.
Barkley is a beloved and respected member of the locker room and the organization, and the actual face of the franchise, even ahead of the recently-extended Daniel Jones.
He was the best running back in the league when healthy, and even though he’s struggled with major injuries throughout the course of his career, he was still quite efficient in 2022.
Of course, running backs are becoming expendable, and the Giants might be concerned about his long-term outcome.
But they would be wise to just settle this soon and move on, rather than keeping a disgruntled star.
