Jujutsu Kaisen 2nd Season

Episode 3 review: I am a manga reader, and I won't spoil anything. This season is adapting one of the greatest Shounen Arc in history which is why I started to reading the manga in the first place. But storyline isn't the only main thing here, the anime adaption is also an important thing, and luckily Mappa is in charge of that. From the last 3 episodes, the anime adaption are pure masterpiece. Episode 3 was 10/10 to me. The animation, the artstyle, the art background, the visuals, the composition, the sound directing, the anime directing, the pacing of this story was everything 10/10. The ... undersea scene with Riko was visually my most favourite part. And Gojo vs Toji was a great fight scene. Him using his maximum Blue technique was a masterpiece adaption. I was expecting this creative camera movement once I knew Shota was announced as the new director. Finally got what I expected. If it was like Season 1, then this whole scene would've been static with no movement and less camera movement with unnecessary details in the Gojo's cloth & the surroundings. Hopefully it stays top in this anime week, cause this episode was 10/10 and it deserves to stay top at different Anime Ranking Platforms.

The 2nd season of JJK is a major flashback. I don't have problem with that. But what I dislike in this season is the directing, especially the "there's a flashback within flashback". In episode 3 alone, there are already 3 different flashbacks 😅 which all of them are better to be included in the previous episodes.

I watch JJK for fight scene only, so I don't really expect a masterpiece kind of story. And yes, the fight scenes are cool. But I prefer the artwork of the first season than this one. It's darker and more fitting to the theme. The most interesting characters in this ... season are Toji and Geto. Gojo? Nah, I'm not a fan even from season 1. I personally don't like a stupidly overpowered character who almost have zero flaws.

- 3 episodes in this new season and all episodes are flashback, started without any setup, we don't know who is telling this flashback story and whose perspective are we watching.
- There is no suspense because we know it's a flashback.
- The plot isn't moving anywhere for 5 episodes (from what I was told).
- We see characters from the movie, so people are expected to have seen the movie to care, I didn't see it and couldn't care less about any of these characters except for Gojo (who we already know is fine in the present time).

You know what this is like? it's ... like starting Naruto Shippoden with a Kakashi flashback that goes on for 5 weeks. Sure, Kakashi flashback does have some good information about end-game villain (Obito), but it doesn't move the plot along and is ultimately unnecessary.
A new season shouldn't be started like this, the director could have skipped it or rearranged it to be at the middle (or the end) of the season, or he could have scattered it all around the season, but his way of doing this isn't working for me.

As I'm not enjoying it, I rate it a 4/10.
