Synopsis

Eccentric scientist Rintarou Okabe has a never-ending thirst for scientific exploration. Together with his ditzy but well-meaning friend Mayuri Shiina and his roommate Itaru Hashida, Rintarou founds the Future Gadget Laboratory in the hopes of creating technological innovations that baffle the human psyche. Despite claims of grandeur, the only notable "gadget" the trio have created is a microwave that has the mystifying power to turn bananas into green goo.

However, when Rintarou decides to attend neuroscientist Kurisu Makise's conference on time travel, he experiences a series of strange events that lead him to believe that there is more to the "Phone Microwave" gadget than meets the eye. Apparently able to send text messages into the past using the microwave, Rintarou dabbles further with the "time machine," attracting the ire and attention of the mysterious organization SERN.

Due to the novel discovery, Rintarou and his friends find themselves in an ever-present danger. As he works to mitigate the damage his invention has caused to the timeline, he is not only fighting a battle to save his loved ones, but also one against his degrading sanity.

[Story] 10 - A perfect story for me. Starts off with character development that feels natural and remains entertaining throughout. It feels a lot like a slice of life, but gradually adds sci-fi elements and develops the more complex ideas of the story, whilst also introducing the whole cast. The story suddenly develops a dead serious tone in the second half of the series, and because of all the first half development, it really makes you want to root for the characters. The story was not at all predictable, and had several devastating twists and turns. It got to the point where there was a ...

Mixed Feelings
A 5 page essay on why Steins: Gate is ridiculously overrated. An anime with a plot that has more holes in it than a cheese grater that was used to shred the protagonists brain at birth.

Across my substantial anime watching history of hundreds of shows and thousands of episodes, I have never met a protagonist as incompetent and straight up stupid, as Okabe. If you look up "failure" in a dictionary, his face would take up the entire page.

But what can you expect from a show where the premise is that a bunch of dudes made a time machine out of their microwave and ...

Steins;Gate, despite its popularity and acclaim, falls short in several aspects, making it an eh, underwhelming experience for some. Firstly, its pacing can be agonizingly slow, with long stretches of exposition and dialogue that can test the patience of viewers. While building a solid foundation for the plot is important, Steins;Gate often takes it to the extreme, sacrificing momentum and leaving viewers feeling disengaged. Additionally, the characters, although diverse and eccentric, often lack depth and development. Many of them are reduced to mere archetypes, lacking the complexity and growth that would make them truly compelling. Furthermore, the series heavily relies on clichés and tropes, which ...
