Kanojo, Okarishimasu 3rd Season

This season really up their game from the last season. Last season was kinda bland, but now for this season we have a clear goal the MCs are working towards, also I do like how they introduced Mini.

Mini Yaemori was a much needed character who needed to be introduced and serve as the middle man. For real instead all this circling around that Kazuya and Chizuru are doing with each other, Mini straight up trying to stop that and get them together. From a viewer's perspective I'm like yesss thank you for helping our MC out. Even though he may be trash and makes ... mistakes a lot, he really needed not only a girl like best friend to help him out, but a best friend he could openly talk to and be honest about everything because he literally had no one he can talk to about this. He couldn't even talk to his actual best friends because he was lying to them about Chizuru being his gf and her situation at college. For once he's actually able to talk to someone about everything, even though he doesn't see it like that. I think the creator really up their game by introducing Mini Yaemori.

On another note the other character's are pretty much the same, but we're starting see Chizuru's true feelings start to show little by little. Ruka still indenial, Mami didn't really have any screen time, but she a B. Sumi still trying to overcome her shyness. And yeah for the most part this season has been focusing on the goal of the movie, while also focusing on Chizuru's and Kazuya's relationship so far.

I hope this is like the final season because I can see it ending like this. Like it ends with a whole confession at the end of the movie screening or some day after, or maybe even before, which I hope something happens. And then the show ends an episode or 2 after the movie screening. It can make this season the redemption arc for how eh the last season was. As of me watching episode 3 I really think it could go on a good path if this is hopefully the last season. Maybe a S4 could be last if idk that's like shooting the movie arc or something.

Overall 8/10. If they can break that circle Kazuya and Chizuru have been going in this season I'll rate it higher.

I'll try to be brief. I haven't read the source material, so I don't know how the plot will develop further. Therefore, I have no hope for the storyline to transform into a better, more interesting direction. Moreover, I've heard that it has been in stagnation for quite some time. But we're not talking about the source material; we're discussing the third season of the adaptation.

Honestly, I don't care anymore. The second season was just a dragged-out imitation of the first one, and these three episodes have only reinforced my belief that there won't be any significant decisions or transformations from the main cast of ... the show.

I'll give this season the benefit of the doubt for another 2-3 episodes, but if there's no plot shake-up that forces the main ensemble to evolve, I'll quit watching. Because it's not a "realistic" drama, and it has never presented itself as one. You know, where you could forgive the main characters' inertia, their inability to confront internal conflicts, and so on... because that's how it happens in real life. It has always been a half-comedy with sometimes blatantly stupid charcter/plot decisions. That's why I can't justify the lack of momentum in this show.

As human beings, our time on this planet is finite. Of course, in 100 years, everyone reading this review will be very dead, but I also mean this in a more broad sense. Eventually, the sun will become a black hole and swallow the Earth. Due to entropy, the entire universe is continuously moving toward a heat death that will freeze all living things. And those are just some examples, if you go more into depth, there are thousands of things that could end humanity someday. With the limited time I have on this planet, sometimes I wonder why I waste that time watching shit ... like Rent a Girlfriend.

Ok, that was pretty dramatic, I don’t outright hate Kanokari, I just consider it a vapid waste of time. I didn’t always think like this though. In fact, when the series first came out, I liked it enough to catch up to the manga. It relieved that itch for a series that was cringey yet spicy in a way that I hadn’t seen before. The characters were flat and the story wasn’t great, but I expected that to improve as the series went on, so I enjoyed what I had. A lack of character development that was sorely needed and semi-frequent negative character development for some reason, along with me beginning to watch actually good romance anime led me to drop the manga just after Kazuya cucked himself in that swimming pool. My opinion of Kanokari has deteriorated so far since then that I can’t really imagine why anyone would watch this show seriously anymore.

At this point, I feel like what made Kanokari watchable in the first place has run its course. There’s no type of major plot development in this series, and typically, nothing important comes of the plot development that does happen. The first time the viewer sees Mami looking ominous or Chizuru being flustered in her room after Kazuya said/did something overzealous, the viewer is entertained because they expect serious plot development. But after 27 episodes of this shit, the viewer discerns that these “plot devices” typically amount to nothing. They know that Mami’s ominous glances do not amount to anything but a fiery conversation and a couple of pointless declarations that are rarely followed up on. They know that the author makes Chizuru look flustered as a reminder to the audience that Chizuru actually likes Kazuya; nothing of note comes of it. The comedy has also degraded through sheer repetitiveness. This series produces most of its comedy through Kazuya or Ruka spazzing about Kazuya and Chizuru’s relationship. At first, watching that happen instilled some type of reaction in me; whether that be genuine laughter, mild bewilderment, or, at the very least, a sarcastic quip. But now, those reactions have grown into stone-faced glances or dejected sighs.

You can’t just do the same thing for 27 episodes and expect the viewers to not get fatigued. The author knows this, and through three episodes of the third season, there have been some attempts to rectify that. The upcoming movie arc looks to be the most substantial plot development of the series so far. The introduction of Yaemori gives us an audience surrogate that has a more objective viewpoint of the series' situations: something that was very needed. Her uniqueness in the series also allows her to be pretty entertaining and comedic compared to the other characters in the series. With such potential bright spots on the horizon, you might ask, “Why is he being so negative?” If you refer back to the last two paragraphs, you’ll remember that this series doesn’t have the best track record of delivering in situations like this. Despite a positive outlook, I just don’t have that much faith that Yaemori and the upcoming movie arc can make this series enjoyable to watch again. Through 3 episodes, I am correct on that take.

Overall, the 3rd season of Kanokari is not a series I can recommend to anybody. I called it a waste of time at the beginning and I stick by that assessment. It’s a romcom anime that, through sheer repetition, fails at being compelling at both romance and comedy. Kanokari has always been a hard watch due to how cringe it is, but now that cringe is replaced with boredom. If nothing else, I just want to be surprised by this season; whether that be a good surprise or a bad one. Part of me is hoping that Yaemori and the movie arc will revive this series to something actually watchable, but I’m not holding my breath and I expect to be somewhat disappointed. Disappointed is probably not the word for that considering that it implies that I had expectations to begin with.
