Synopsis

When Subaru Natsuki leaves the convenience store, the last thing he expects is to be wrenched from his everyday life and dropped into a fantasy world. Things are not looking good for the bewildered teenager; however, not long after his arrival, he is attacked by some thugs. Armed with only a bag of groceries and a now useless cell phone, he is quickly beaten to a pulp. Fortunately, a mysterious beauty named Satella, in hot pursuit after the one who stole her insignia, happens upon Subaru and saves him. In order to thank the honest and kindhearted girl, Subaru offers to help in her search, and later that night, he even finds the whereabouts of that which she seeks. But unbeknownst to them, a much darker force stalks the pair from the shadows, and just minutes after locating the insignia, Subaru and Satella are brutally murdered.

However, Subaru immediately reawakens to a familiar scene—confronted by the same group of thugs, meeting Satella all over again—the enigma deepens as history inexplicably repeats itself.

Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu adapts the first nine volumes of Tappei Nagatsuki's light novel series of the same title.

An edited version of the series received a rebroadcast starting January 1, 2020. Twenty-five episodes of the original series were combined into thirteen 49-minute long episodes with some scenes being slightly extended. The last four minutes of episode 13 featured new scenes that were later included at the beginning of the second season.

Just to get things out of the way: this score deserves a 10 not necessarily for its metrics per se, but for the fact that for people who like anime in general it is a show that needs to be seen.

What I'm sick and tired of lately, which will probably never be stopped, is reviewers or fans comparing shows to other shows. It's a huge anime circlejerk that people are really adamant about. Honestly, it could be said about a lot of things. Video games are a very good example, but that's for another time.

Mixed Feelings

I can't say I'm a fan of the show. It have it's highs and it have it's lows, probably more lows than highs in my opinion.

It take a bit too long to get started and I felt like I was ready to drop it after the first few episodes but decided to stick it out, and that I'm glad I did. When you get through the first handful of episodes, the first part of the season can/is very enjoyable. I was particularly harsh with this rating because I felt that it wasted my time. I never felt like there was enough of an explanation about anything that was happening and the reason it was happening. The character development was very poor as I never really understood why he was putting himself into this melodramatic position to begin with. I felt that the resolve was not strong enough to make him do anything really. I mean there was barely any romance, the main character was dumb to say the least and if I was ever to interpret the anime in any other way, I ... would say that the main character was delusional borderline psychotic.

The season finale ended and I was in awe by how nothing really happened in terms of action or at least character development. The hero journey was non-existent, and everything felt very forced. I believe the anime needed more work into it and it is largely overrated. I love isekai but this does not deserve to be on par with other good anime out there where the the characters and the story BOTH make sense.

I avoid writing reviews but seeing this rating made me furious. So everyone here giving this anime a 9 liked it right? However, I never heard anyone saying what they liked about it…

I am not an expert in anime, but I after you read many books and watch so many movies and series, you cone to know and understand when one story is worth telling and good. I mean even if the story is lacking, the characters in it and their development can save it however it did not happen here. In this anime, I never understood why this story was worth telling, I got bored easily, I felt forced to feel sorry for the idiot protagonist, the hero was not hero at all and of course there was no hero journey and I was left with more questions than answers when it finished. I felt empty and did not like what I watched cause it made no sense. It was just a series of events put together to just create extreme emotional scenes. It’s like someone forcing you to watch The Notebook: You will cry but that’s because you’re not an emotionless robot not because you liked the movie.

This anime is not for 8+ rating as this would mean that it is almost as good as: One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, HunterxHunter, Boku no hero Academia, Magi, Black Clover, Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan, Death Note, Kingdom, and so on…. I doubt that the work put in Re:Zero is remotely close to those where story and character development is there and all of the things that make you love them are missing in Re:Zero.
