Looking at the basis of the general story line, both have these similar key factors: -Futuristic School -Schools/Classes compete in "games" for their ranking However, as someone who thoroughly enjoyed Classroom of the Elite, watching Liar Liar is very funny to me. I don't want to spoil anything but when you watch Liar Liar after COTE, it feels like Im watching a parody version. While watching these two shows I came to realize how someone can be almost exactly the same while also being very, very different. TLDR; If you like COTE, you'll get a bit of a laugh out of Liar, Liar.

These series take place in a valley near a snow covered mountain, where the most important main character lives in a cylinder shaped house. The characters are more or less humanoid creatures. Oniisama e.. is darker and set closer to the present day, while Ashinaga Ojisan is a bit more light-hearted and set in a more historical period.

Urasawa Naoki's Monster and Spy x Family find thematic resonance in their ability to craft intricate narratives within the backdrop of the divided Soviet Block between East and West Germany. While Monster delves into a suspenseful thriller centered on a doctor's pursuit of a mysterious killer, set against the tensions of the Cold War era, Spy x Family utilizes a similarly divided setting to infuse its spy-centric comedy with layers of intrigue. In both stories, the intricacies of espionage, clashing battle of wits and the complexities of personal connections are masterfully intertwined, ultimately highlighting the human experiences that transcend political barriers. The contrasting struggles faced by characters in the East and West serve as a compelling backdrop that enriches their individual journeys, making both narratives a captivating exploration of the human mind within the context of a divided world where nothing is as it seems. Moreover, by featuring late 70s superhero cartoons present in each series, further added a layer of meta element.

Hotarubi no Mori e
Anime: Somali to Mori no Kamisama

Somali to Mori no Kamisama
1: Unconventional Companionships: Both anime explore the beauty of friendships that transcend conventional boundaries. In "Somali and the Forest Spirit," the gentle relationship between a golem guardian and a human child blossoms, while "Hotarubi no Mori e" weaves a tender connection between a girl and a forest spirit. The way these relationships develop and the emotions they evoke are central to both stories. 2: Emotional Journeys: "Somali and the Forest Spirit" and "Hotarubi no Mori e" take viewers on emotional journeys that resonate on a profound level. While "Somali" emphasizes the father-daughter dynamic between the golem and Somali, "Hotarubi" explores the bittersweet love between the girl and the spirit. Both anime draw viewers into their worlds through strong emotions and relatable experiences. 3: Exploration of Transience: A common theme in both anime is the concept of transience and the fleeting nature of moments. In "Somali," the golem's eternal existence contrasts with Somali's human life, highlighting the impermanence of childhood. Similarly, "Hotarubi" captures the ephemeral nature of the girl's encounters with the spirit as she grows older. This theme adds a layer of poignancy to the narratives. 4. Connection with Nature: Nature plays a vital role in both anime, serving as a backdrop for the characters' interactions. In "Somali," the vast and enchanting forest provides the setting for the duo's adventures. In "Hotarubi," the forest becomes a realm where the girl's interactions with the spirit occur. The synergy between the characters and their surroundings enhances the enchantment of both stories. Conclusion: "Somali and the Forest Spirit" and "Hotarubi no Mori e" capture the essence of relationships in extraordinary circumstances.

There are barely any romantic scenes in Kakuriyo but there are hints of something. It's even less of a hint than what you get from SAFT. You do get the feeling that ML really cares for FL though.

Ousama Game The Animation
While these two shows are of very different genres, both shows have tons of characters getting killed off, in very over-the-top and gory ways, that fans of mindless killing will enjoy either one, or both shows. Do note that some of the later deaths in Ousama Game have some weird censorship to them, while the early Terra Formars episodes had censorship so overbearing that people made memes out of it, although there are uncensored versions of those said Terra Formars episodes, showing off the said over-the-top gore. The two shows also suffer from similar flaws, despite them having ambitious concepts to them, moreso with Ousama Game. The huge casts in both shows, results in character killing speedruns, even before you know who those characters are, and some of those characters don't even speak before they die. The lack of engagement with the characters, and the sheer high kill counts, will leave you feeling nothing with most of the death scenes. The two shows are also heavily dependent on flashbacks to explain things, with how Nobuaki survived the first Ousama Game, and the character backgrounds in Terra Formars. The flashbacks for both shows also slow down the pacing of the current time to a crawl, which can be frustrating to watch.

The protagonists of both series are similar in personality and come to the same logical conclusion (to make a living off of Earth technology) as well as following the same path in life, what differs them is their circumstances and thus how easily they accomplish their goals: Myne only has her memories from Earth to rely on, other than that she's just a sickly peasant child kept alive by willpower alone. The nobility are cruel and aloof, and every inch of progress is hardfought. Mitsuha has the ability to teleport anywhere she pleases, able to acquire any Earth product she likes without making it herself, and most of the people she meets are kind and generous. So, in short it's like a speedrun of Ascendance of a Bookworm. Progress is made not by the inch, but by the mile, with Mitsuha having the leeway to really splurge and go wild. Saving 80,000 Gold certainly isn't as sophisticated or memorable a series, but the contrast to its sophisticated counterpart makes it a lot of fun IMO.

The Eminence in Shadow is far inferior to Overlord in many ways, but they both contain the incredibly specific trope of a guy being reincarnated into a fantasy world where he suddenly gains much power and many subordinates, and as a result he has to keep up the act of a perfect and all-knowing leader (when he is really no such thing).

Both involve a protagonist who is given supernatural powers and creates a masked persona to go by. They both use their newfound powers under their said guises and create a rebel organization dedicated towards fighting the currupt governments and sinister groups respectively. Cid and Lelouch are also very similar in personality. While Cid is also a lot less serious and brooding than Lelouch and tends to act like a fool (both on purpose and accident) but like Lelouch he's got a sadistic side to him. He also implies that he has a master plan that he wants to take himself down to, which Lelouch also shares. Code Geass is more story driven with a far more serious tone and theme, along with a more centralized and developed cast. While Eminence feels more like a parody, with many character introductions skimmed or skipped. But there's just enough weight and a ton of self-consciousness to keep it both refreshing and fun to watch. Code Geass is definitely the better show, but even in direct comparison Eminence holds up well - and is a solid recommendation for fans of one to go to the other.
